The Vintage Filmmaker

Andy Painter - seen here with his Grandpa’s Super 8 movie camera.

Mr. W. A. Painter (Andy to his friends) is crazy in love with film and has a borderline obsession with vintage history and style.

Inspired by the golden age of 1940’s Hollywood, Andy started out by studying filmmaking and getting degrees in Film and TV production. After graduating and working in the video industry for way too many years he was disappointed to discover there were so few opportunities to produce his favorite kinds of films; classic vintage cinema. Andy decided to put his experience to use and set about bringing to life the kinds of movies he wanted to see.

Although his films may be vintage, Andy’s values are unapologetically modern and he believes that in order to have a truly progressive future we need to have a comprehensive appreciation of the past through relevant stories of diversity and inclusivity. These beliefs guide Andy in his commitment to address inequality in all forms.

In addition to writing and filmmaking, Andy is also a bit of an actor, so don’t be surprised if you see him around from time to time. He collects vintage treasures and clothing, specifically hats, and also has a passion for music playing jazz, blues and boogie on the piano.

Andy presently resides in Orlando with his two amazing daughters.

(Feature Film Documentary Edited by Andy Painter)

“One of the film’s more effective techniques is the convening of Ms. Nichols’s various selves at different ages—from different times

and a variety of interviews—and having them lead into and out of each other. The actress sometimes seems to finish her own sentences,

even with pauses of 20 or 30 years. Editor Andy Painter gives the film’s many satellite elements fluid, forward motion.”
